We will be spending one night in Baden-Baden in early June...any suggestions for a Rick Steves-type of hotel? Thanks
martha, I stayed at Hotel Beeg in Baden Baden, and was very pleased with the room. It was modern, clean and comfortable. AFAIK, it's still listed in the Guidebook. The check-in was a bit quirky though. If you find the door to the hotel locked, go into the Bakery and restaurant on the main floor and ask. Once I figured that out, the check-in was VERY fast. Be sure to try the Black Forest Cake in the Bakery. It was awesome! Happy travels!
Thanks !!! Do you know if they have parking? We are renting a car. And..that Black Forest Cake sounds right up my alley!!!!!
We have stayed at the Hotel am Markt twice, 2006 and 2012, and enjoyed the comfort, location, and the value, plus a great breakfast. Check their website for parking options. It was featured in Rick's Baden-Baden video and now the rooms are even nicer since their remodel.
martha, Unfortunately, parking may be a problem. As I recall, NO cars are allowed inside the main part of the city, except for service vehicles and those with permits. I believe there's a car park just outside the barriers for visitor parking, but I'd have to check the Guidebook for details. I took a Taxi from the station, which is a short distance from the city. The driver was able to open the gate leading into the city with a key card or whatever, and took me right to the front door of the hotel. Good luck!
We also liked Hotel am Markt - it's in a great location, clean, has a good breakfast, and is reasonably-priced!
For sentimental reasons, I like the Hotel Der Kleine Prinz (the Little Prince Hotel). It is themed after the book of that name by St. Exupery. It gets an "excellent" rating on booking.com.
