Anybody have any favorite lodgings in Bad Ischl? (or any general tips/thoughts on the town?) I can't seem to find too many personal opinions on the town, but it's a nice mid-point in my travel plan. Yes, I'm aware of the large amount of posh places there; we're looking for something budget but not threadbare. Thanks!
Two years ago we left Salzburg a day early because of the crowds. On our way to Halstadt. Stopped at Bad Ischl and stayed at Hotel Goldener Ochs. The nicest room we had on our whole trip. Right on the river over the bridge from the main down town area.
check out rick steves guide book. his selections are great.
Unfortunately Rick doesn't mention Bad Ischl in his books. I have them and checked there first.
I like how he picks his highlights of a country and doesn't seek to cram everything in there, but I usually do end up supplementing his material with Lonely Planet's stuff. I live overseas and simply don't have the current cash flow to go ordering English travel books to be shipped to me right now.
Bad Ischl is a favorite for European tourists (most RS folks buzz right through town on their way to Hallstadt). A damn shame, though. The spa town was Emperor FJ1's favorite escape and has been hosting large numbers of visitors every year. Numerous accommodations, inc. B&Bs; find them at www.salzkammergut.co.at
Start with Frühstückspension Sonnhof downtown and work your way through the listings
yes, said spa's website is making me drool, but hotel prices are not. some of the reviews (German and english ones) are kinda mixed on the options that appear affordable. Lots of Gasthaus' don't have websites or reviews and I'm thinking they would be cheaper...anybody have a word on those??
