My husband and I fly in to Frankfurt in November and are considering taking the train to Bacharach, staying there for 2 nights and then going on to Delmenhorst. Any advice on staying in Bacharach in mid November? Also... is it not possible to take the ICE all the way up without many stops?
Bacharach will be mostly shut down in November. If you want a room, I would contact the tourist bureau at Bacharach.de to see what is open. You will have better connections all around and a decent room selection if you stay in Mainz or Koblenz (both nice towns). See www.Bahn.de for connections. I do not believe that Bacharach is serviced by ICE trains, only local transport.
Sorry to disappoint you, but ICEs do not run from every small town to every small town in Germany You'll have to take local trains from small town to express town stations to small town. (Just like you can't fly from Ft Collins to Jamestown.) In the case of Bacharach to Delmenhorst, it's Bacharach to Koblenz to Bremen (probably via Köln) to Delmenhorst.
Thanks a bunch.
We stayed here in Bacharach this past spring. Nothing fancy but very comfortable and reasonable with a huge breakfast. A very nice family run pension a short walk from the train station.
I first saw Im Malerwinkel in April 2004 and thought is was very nice. I've been recommending it ever since. In November, 2008, I was in the area, so went to Bacharach to check out Im Malerwinkel for myself, and it was closed for the season.
