I am told that everything shuts down on a sunday in this region. As we only have 2 days here,sun/mon, any suggestions as to how we should plan our sightseeing on these days? Also please advise RE: restaurants/places to eat as we are travelling with kids.thanks
It's a tourist area, so it doesn't shut completely down. You will be able to find everything you need but limited service hours.
Grocery stores, clothing stores and the like will be closed. There might be fewer souvenir shops open. But restaurants and attractions will definitely be open.
This is a tourist area, also popular for day trips for locals so Sundays can be especially busy in restaurants and the castles.
We stayed in St. Goar which is very close to Bacharach. We found a number of places to eat there and most of them were reasonable. A number of the restaurants are have indoor and outdoor seating. Plan on taking the KD lines at Bacharach to St. Goar and you will see a Castle built right in the Rhine River. It is a short trip with the river (40 minutes) and approx. 1 1/4 hours back against the current. Very interesting trip. We were just there at the end of June 2008.
thanks Ed,will take your advice.looking forward to our trip in 2 weeks. Also some nice warm weather, as we are in the midst of our winter!!!!
