Hello everyone, i plan to visit swiss from April 19-22 when my desired hotels in Wengen & Lauterbrunnen are closed. Reading posts on travelers helpline i learned that the weather will be rainy and not suitable for hiking. And the towns will be dead. Q.1: If my purpose is to ride the trains/gondolas to see Jungfrau and Schilthorn (no hiking), is this trip doable? Q.2: I should then base myself in Interlaken? Thank you very much for your replies.
I just looked the other day for another poster. Jungfraubahn claims the trip to Jungfraujoch all year.
The Schilthornbahn (to the top) closes for maiintenance April 26 through 29, but it will be open and running on your dates. It will be on winter schedule, running every 30 minutes. www.schilthornbahn.ch
I would say you should base yourself in an entirely different Alpine region where the weather is more dependable at that time of year. Northern Italy or Bavaria, statistically, have better weather usually in April. If you do decide to go to the BO, I'm not certain about the Jungfraubahn, but at least one of the gondolas on the Schilthorn side will remain open (they don't close them both at the same time).
That's wonderful! Thanks everyone for your inputs!
