It has been 14 years since I was last in the Loire valley at that time we just winged it and found charming accommodations from the chambres d'hotes signs along the road. Inexpensive and always included breakfast.
Now, older and more cautious, I am looking up B & Bs on the web ahead of time and am blown away by the prices and how many don't include breakfast. I have seen typical 10Euro breakfast some as high as 15 Euro. $20 for crossants and coffee? Any thoughts on not booking ahead and just winging it again during mid October? I don't need 4 star luxury just historic flavor and ambience from farmhouse to chateau type places in town or out of town. Any suggestions from recent visitors to the area? Looking to make Amboise the "center" of day trips so want a few nights in that area. Thanks, Ruth
