B&B recommendations - small village along Loire

I'm looking for a B&B for one night somewhere in the Western Loire Valley, maybe between Chenonceaux and Amboise. I'm searching this site and TripAdvisor for tips, but since I don't know the area at all it's tough to evaluate them. We will have a car, and would prefer to be in a small village away from the highways. We will see Chenonceau one afternoon, stay overnight, then drive slowly northeast along the river and back to our home base east of Paris. Suggestions or personal recommendations for one night's accommodation gratefully accepted.

ETA: family of 4, two teenage girls. Budget - not sure, E150-ish would be nice, E200-ish okay.

excellent, thanks Norma! I didn't really want to spend that much but assumed it was a high-tourist therefore high price area. I'll check out this site

There is a group of family-owned-and-run hotels in France operating under the umbrella name "Logis de France". We have stayed at many over the years and all were very excellent with the added advantage of (usually) on site parking. I just googled "logis de france amboise/chenonceaux" and saw several that I would love to stop at overnight. Your budget would be over-generous for most Logis de France inns. Good luck and bonne route.

We stayed in a B&B in Onzain, which is just west of Blois. There is a handy bridge right there that provides easy access to both sides of the river. We stayed there on 2 different trips and found it a good home base - it is about 30 minutes from Amboise. One advantage, in addition to the close proximity of the bridge, is there is hardly any traffic in the immediate area, so it is very easy to get around. It's been 10 years since we were there, so I can't say whether the B&B is still in operation, but the name of it was Chez Langlais, I think, & it was in Karen Brown's B&B book for France.

Have a wonderful trip.

Hi There. We stayed in an apartment above an antique shop in Montsoreau, right by Saumur. I little too far west than what I think you're looking for.

I used purefrance.com for the booking and had a great experience. They have a whole section of rentals for Loire Valley.

Have a wonderful trip, it is beautiful there!

Not a B&B but Hotel la Roseraie is located in Chenonceaux just a few minutes walk to Chateau de Chenonceau. We (2 people) stayed there last year for 67 euros and the owners, Laurent and Sophie are very nice. We also had dinner in their restaurant and it was the best meal we had during the trip. If you have RS France guide book it is mentioned and that is how we found out about it. They do have private parking for those with a car. Web address is:

Last June we stayed at a fantastic B&B (and RS pic) called La Flanerie (Laflanerie.com) near Cheverney. Beautiful, quiet with only two rooms. Easy to find, and close to the small town of Les Fees, surrounded by fields. One of the rooms would be perfect for your family.

Our room for two cost us $57 EU nite, the other suite that sleeps up to 5 costs $96EU nite for 4, I believe.

Breakfast was simple, but all homemade. The owners, the Delabarres, were absolutly wonderful hosts.

You can also try Gites de France, a large, well-known (in France) association of inspected and rated bed and breakfasts. In addition to the B&B, they are known for rental vacation cottages and homes. They have an English-language website.

we stayed at chateau des arpentis 2 weeks ago. it is a castle just outside of amboise. i cannot say enough good things about it. the rooms have been recently renovated as has the chateau. breakfast is included in the price of the room, there is a pool and a small forest to explore. the hotelier olivier is the most attentive and accommodating person i have ever run into. the prices are midrange and worth every centime!

La Roseraie in Chenonceaux is the most delightful place to stay, hands down. It is not really a hotel. More like a bed and breakfast. Look it up at tripadvisor.com. Better than glowing reports. You must also eat at least one dinner there. Great hosts, great location, great food.
