Hello All, I'll be travelling with my wife and 2 boys(ages 8 and 5) to Vienna may 14-20th. The plan is to stay local in Vienna. Any suggestions for short day trips around the area? We plan to spend 3 days in Vienna and then another day somewhere else. Also do folks have recommendations for a family friendly Bed&Breakfast in Vienna? thanks much,
karthik
Pension Sacher. Super awesome location, huge rooms, and a great family that run it. No breakfast but downstairs is a bakery.
Day trip – why not Budapest for the day, plenty of bus trips on the web and it's only a couple of hours to get there. Have a look at this site - http://classicworld.at/vienna/sightseeing-tours/full-day-excursion-to-budapest/?p=36&l=2&c=1&id=5 A great B&B - http://www.pensionkraml.at/EN/index.html you won't be disappointed.
You can do a day trip up to the Wachau on the Danube. Take the train from Vienna to Melk (tour the Abbey if you are in to that) and catch one of the boats going down to Durnstein, hike up to the ruined castle where Richard Lion Heart was held captive by the Duke of Austria. The village is very nice as well. Take the bus to Krems and from there you can catch the train back to Vienna. If you are into wine the Wachau area has some of the finest.
Last time I was there, I followed Rick Steves' advice and stayed at K&T Boardinghouse. They have since added a second property closeby. The price and location cannot be beat, and their accommodations are very modern. The subway is under the street out front, and you can be into the Ringstrasse in a couple of minutes. And good restaurants and a large supermarket are closeby.
Kalid and Tina are such a neat couple, and they're online.
