Looking for suggestions for B&B near Holland Tulip areas, will have car so do not want to stay in Haarlem or Amsterdam. Planning for next April.
By "Tulip area", I assume you'll want to visit Keukenhof. Other than some bulb fields, there isn't too much of interest in the immediate vicinity, and because you'll have a car, I'll recommend something a little further away. I stayed at Hotel Kinderdijk near Alblasserdam. The biggest selling point of the hotel is this view from most of the rooms: http://www.feratel.com/en/webcams-weather/netherlands/kinderdijk.html I might also recommend staying in Breda or Delft.
Jeff, if Keukenhof is what you want to see, Delft, Breda, etc are far more remote than Amsterdam or Haarlem. It is easy to get to Keukenhof from Amsterdam. Simply take the train the the airport and from there pick up the shuttle bus that goes directly. You can get directions from the Keukenhhof website. If you want to stay really close, look at a map and find several towns closeby and then input them at tripadvisor.com You will find a number of results.
The shuttle bus from Leiden is much closer, and Delft is very close to Leiden. Amsterdam Centraal to Leiden is 30-45 minutes. Delft to Leiden takes 20-35 minutes.
Sorry, my recollection was that it was a shuttle from Schiphol; in reality it is bus 58. The train from Amsterdam to the airport is 13 minutes; bus 58 to the gardens is 25 minutes. The train from Delft to Leiden is 20 minutes and the bus to the gardens is 25 minutes. Thus, the total is nearly identical. Perhaps the more important question is where would you rather stay and what else do you want to do during your stay.
