B&B's in Dordogne and Alsace France

My husband and I are travelling to France in April and would like to hear about any B&B's in the Dordogne, Alsace and even Provence areas. Any musts?

All the towns along Alsace have cute little B&Bs. www.visit-alsace.com is a good place to start there. My favorite Alsatian town is Riquewihr. Over run by tourists usually, but amazingly cute.

I have two recommendations for you, one in Dordogne and one in Provence. We stayed in both on a recient trip to France. Both are clean, confortable and reasonably priced. The one in Provence was in Venasque, a small hilltop village near the city of Carpentras. The B&B is located in a quiet setting a short walk from the village center. The owners speak English and were very helpful in advising us what to see. We stayed for a week. http://www.masdukairos.com/site%20gb/index.htm In Dordogne the B&B is in the countryside about 10 km from Sarlat. It is run by an English couple who again provided us with a wealth of infromation about the surrounding area. http://www.lerelaisdupech.com/index.html You can read about our stay at both places here: http://tinyurl.com/2cohly7

Peg, Alsace is one of my favourite areas in France; aside from going to Colmar, you should really see Strasbourg, a lovely and historical city and the cathedral, what is known in German as das Straßburger Münster. A small place from Strasbourg as a day trip is Obernai, went there over ten years ago, very Alsacian. The area immediately around the Strasbourg train station has numerous 2 and some 3 star hotels, stayed in two different 2 star ones, very convenient to take the train to see the outlying villages. I found people in the service and tourist industry, such as in the cafes and patisseries in Obernai, speaking both German and French.

We enjoyed five nights at Les Hautes Granges which is located about five miles from Sarlat. They are situated on a bit of acreage and have nice garden area and also a pool. All rooms are ground level. The owners do an evening meal on certain nights. It was a great location from which to explore the Dordogne-easy driving in that area.

We traveled to the Alsace last summer and stayed just outside Dieffenthal, a small town north of Colmar along the wine route. The La Verger Des Chateaux is a hotel but was reasonable and very charming.
