Does anyone how far it is and how to get from the main rail station/dom to the avis location at Clemens Strasse 29?

David, fire up Google maps, plug in the addresses and take a look.
Also call Avis and ask them.
If they can't help you then you should be looking at renting from AutoEurope.com, who maintian a wonderful phone line in the states, and very often, have the best rates.
