I will be in Avignon for 3 days, Sept. 17-20. Can anyone please help me with some excursions either with bus, train or tour bus so we can se a little more of Provence.
Thank you for any and all suggestions

A lot of what is nearby is easier by car, so check into a rental if you can - just go online to Autoeurope to see possible prices. By train, I'd suggest Arles for its Roman arena and old town. Also Orange for the Roman theater there. By car, you have many possibilities - some possibly accessible by bus. Definitely Pont du Gard and just beyond that, Uzes. In the other direction is Isle sur la Sorgue and Fontaines de Vaucluse.

Thank you so much, yes definintly bus. Definitely Isle sur la Sorgue and Fontaines de Vaucluse will be checked out, it sounds interssting. I did rent a car a few years back and did Arles, Aix, Nice and a lot of other places. So I know a car is not differcult, my friend is just to worried about it. So I am doing this mainly for her. Bus or train is her preference.
Thanks again

Have you considered Arles or Les Baux to the south, or Orange and the Cotes du Rhone to the north?

Suggest a rental car and Vaison La Romaine - Outstanding Roman ruins, and the Cite Medieval on top of the mountain is fantastic (drive a very small car, as the streets are not modern!) It has a fantastic Tuesday Market, in place since the 1500's - great food, items, everything!!

If you absolutely do not want a rental car, there is a company called Viatour that I have used several times in several European countries. They pick up from hotels in Avignon- I was without a car and while I used the bus and trains quite easily (for Isle sur la Sorgue, for example, as well as Les Baux) I used the tour to get around the countryside during lavender season. You will be too late for that, but check out their Website and they can get you to all kinds of places in the area. You pay ahead in US dollars and print out a voucher. They have been reputable and not as ticky tacky touristy as big huge buses. Fontaine au Vaucluse without a car is doable but will take a little logistics, from Isle sur la Sorgue- we ended up getting a ride.

I agree with Karen of Oregon. I've used Viator in a number of places and found the tours to be first rate--so much easier if you have any fears of renting a car, plus you have the advantage of the knowledge and expertise of the guides.
I just wanted to point out, though, that it's www.viator.com, without the U. Different company.
