We have a short trip to Spain in a couple of weeks and while in Madrid we'd like to take the high speed train to Toledo. The website is in Spanish and it looks like the prices listed are for 10 or more trips (unless I'm reading it wrong). What's the best way to reserve tickets for one round trip ticket for each person in our family? Also, is there a website in English?
In the lower left, there's a box that reads "Seleccione su idioma," Spanish for "choose your language." English will show up there. The actual ticket ordering page, unfortunately, is in Spanish only. However, if you arrive in Madrid a couple of days before your trip, simply stop at one of the train stations and purchase your tickets then. It's only 18 Euro return trip, and you can try for first or second journey in the morning, and second last or last coming home in the evening. When you get to Toledo, turn right outside the station and walk about 50 yards to the bus stop. You can take it up to Plaza Zocodover for 1 Euro. I think there's only one bus that stops there, but just ask the driver if you're not sure. If you REALLY want to order on-line, PM me, and I'll walk you thru the process.
Norm has it to the tee. They sell out fast. So buying 1-2 days in advance is a really good idea. You shouldn't have any problems.
Thanks and also thanks to Norm. Our daughter is currently in Barcelona so I'll see if she can purchase the tickets a couple of days ahead of time.
Hi,
Here's the English version of RENFE's webpage.

if the speed of the train to Toledo does not matter, it is still as difficult to buy same day departure tickets? Our plane arrives in Madird at 16:15, and we are planning to head straight to Toledo that day.
Thank you!
Jenn...I'm not sure what you mean by "the speed of the train." There is only the high speed AVE on this route now, so there's no other rail option. Whether there are still tickets available depends on what day you're travelling. If it's a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, you may have problems getting tickets, and you only have two trains to choose from....departures from Atocha at 7:50 and 9:50 pm. There is a bus option...the last Monday-Friday is at 8 pm...Saturday and Sunday, 10 pm...about an hour for the journey. Personally, if I had such a tight schedule, I'd try purchasing them on-line...unless you don't mind spending a night in Madrid as a fall-back.
