I plan on taking the AVE from Madrid to Barcelona in April. I already know that the eurail pass I plan on buying will cover this route and that I have to pay a little extra for a reservation still. I've also heard from a Spanish friend that I need to book this reservation at least 2 weeks in advance because I'm picking a popular to time to travel. My questions is how to make a reservation for this train. I've been to renfe.com, but I can't seem to really see an option of "buying with eurail pass". It seems I can only buy the full fare tickets on the website. I don't really want to wait until I get to Spain to make the reservation because I'm really worried seats would be full by then.

Shiantel, With a Eurail pass you can buy a seat reservation at www.raileurope.com.

I don't believe there is any way to pre-reserve using a Euro-rail pass. You have to reserve in person once you are there. There are lots of trains so if you get a reservation right away when you arrive in Madrid you might be ok.
