My friend and I will be traveling by car to northern Spain in early July. We've booked rooms for the later portion of our trip, but haven't yet booked accommodations for 3 days traveling west from France over the Pyrenees (Izpegui Pass probably) heading towards Santiago de Compostela on the 4th day. We want to stop off frequently to see coastal areas, medieval towns, mountain landscapes... whatever. We hope to spend our first night around Hondarribia/Zumaia/Getaria area, but aren't sure if we will meander so much we'll arrive far enough west. If we book now, maybe we'll end up pushing ourselves harder than we'd like. Same issue for the next day (hoping to see Santillana del Mar, Cueva de Castilla, Comillas) and the following, along the western coast. We'd like to stay someplace moderate, and would be happy in nice pensions or rural/village guesthouses. If we don't book in advance (in order to keep our plans open) will we have trouble finding places to stay?
