I am thinking of visting Auvers. I think Rick mentioned it an earlier version of his Paris guide. I cannot seem to find it in the current France guide. How hard is it to get to and is it woth the trip? Many thanks for any advice.
It's not difficult to get to (1 hr 15 min train ride from Paris). It's only about 20 miles northwest of the Paris center but the train makes lots of stops).
Is it worth the trip? Well, that depends. It could be just the thing for someone with a special interest in the life of Vincent Van Gogh, or an interest in a specialized slice of the history of Impressionist Art. Van Gogh and his brother Theo (who died 6 months after Vincent shot himself in a wheat field near Auvers) are both buried in Auvers and the graves can be visited. Some also visit the building in which Vincent died.
The town is associated with other artists, not just Van Gogh.
I don't think it has as much general interest as Giverny, but Van Gogh fans will love it.
