If you had four days to spend to see the austrian alps where would you start, what would you see and where would you stay? Thanks for any help.

Hi Todd, First a few questions for you:
What time of year? How do you plan on getting around? How many people? What is your main interest in being in the Alps... hiking, walking, just enjoying the scenery? With the very limited info you posted, I'd suggest staying in the Zillertal, the Oetztal, the Zell am See area or the Innsbruck area. I put these in order of my personal preferences. I know the Zilleratl, Zell am See and Innsbruck area are pretty easy by public tran., not so sure about the Oetztal. http://www.zillertal.at/en/summer/home/ http://www.zellamsee-kaprun.com/en/region/zell-am-see http://www.oetztal.com/main/EN/SO/index.html http://www.innsbruck.at/ Paul

Thanks Paul. We have the first full week of October 2013 to visit. We would like moderate hiking and general site seeing in the area. We can move a couple times that week or base out of one town and take day adventures.

Hi Todd, We have traveled to Austria and the Alps quite a few times in early to late October ('01, '03, '06, '07) and last week of Sept.'09. Smaller crowds and usually nice weather with warm days and cool to chilly nights. Those are just our experiences in Oct. We have always had a rental car. What I suggest in particular would be based on how you plan to get around. With a full week, I'd look into basing in 2 places. Me, I'd say 3 nights Zell am See and 4 nights in the Zillertal. Innsbruck is only about an hour or so from the Zillertal. If interested, we have photo's (3 pages) of all these at: http://www.worldisround.com/home/pja1/index.html Paul
