Has anyone visited Zell am See in Austria? If so, is it worth going there and how does it compare to Hallstat? My husband and I want to stop for a day or two and relax in a mountain area and are wondering where to do it.

I'm going to be in Zell am See next week, and it definitely looks like it's worth going to. The pictures that I've seen look amazing, and there seems to be a lot to do.

We visited both as day trips form the Berchtesgaden area. Didn't stay over night at either. Hallstatt was very nice but we loved Zell am See. We're going to visit there again this fall. The scenery is outstanding!

Paul, your pictures are beautiful. Thanks for sharing them. Is there a reason that you didn't stay in either place? Do you regret not staying there? Where did you stay?

Hi Marla,
We were staying in Ramsau when we visited both (on seperate trips). We are once again staying in Ramsau this fall and spending a day in Zell am See. Why aren't we staying in Zell am See... I guess there's just not enough time to stay everywhere. We loved Zell am See but our favorite place to stay (probably anywhere) is at the Pension Mayringerlehen in Ramsau.
