Hi all! I am doing a studay abroad class in Salzburg in July and upon completion I'm planning on taking a train to Paris. I'm traveling by myself and on somewhat a budget would like some advice on lodgings and rails. Is it worth getting a sleeping car? I also have no itinerary except that I'm eventually flying out of London on August 12. I'm going to plan on traveling to Prague, Poland, and Italy while I'm based in Salzburg. Any suggestions on where to stop along the way? I'm completely open :) I was also told to buy a Eurorail pass so I was looking into the Global option but thats a thousand dollars. I don't know. Sorry if this might too broad or too long...

If I understand correctly, you have about a week between Salzburg and London, you want to spend at least some time in Paris, and you would not mind going to southern France.
There are folks on this forum much more experienced than I am. But it seems that your options are spending much of the time in or near Paris, or a quick trip to Nice (though the train trip to Nice looks long) and then a train to Paris.
Perhaps others have some better suggestions as to what to do with four or so free days between Salzburg and Paris.
