Cheryl, Just to clarify, you specified "Monterosso Marche", which is located roughly between Ancona and Gubbio. You're not going to Monterosso in Liguria? Unfortunately, your Swiss Pass won't be of any use on that route, and there is really no "fastest" travel method. I wasn't able to find a listing for a station in "Monterosso Marche". Rail travel from Salzburg to Gubbio will be a minimum of ~13 hours with 3 changes.

Cheryl, Who told you that the station was "Monterosso Marche"??? If you have a Hotel booked, could you provide the name as that will certainly help to pinpoint which location you need to go to. If in fact your destination is Monterosso al Mare, the answer will be apparent quickly as I know most of the Hotels there. As I mentioned previously, Monterosso Marche doesn't appear to have a rail station, so you'll have to get close by rail and then probably travel by Bus. The best website to use for searching that route is the one that Lee mentioned, the German Rail website. Some further details would really help!

Thanks, I realize nothing will really be "quick", but still want to get the quickest we can find, if that makes sense. We are staying in Monterosso. I was told that the station is Monterosso Marche, I will check again maybe I am wrong. Any way we are staying right in Monterosso. I figured we would not get any use from our Swiss Pass for that leg of the trip. Can you tell me what site you looked it up on and do you like doing an overnight would work better? Thanks again

It would really be helpful if you can be sure which Monterosso you need. Monterosso al Mare or Monterosso Marche. They are in opposite sides of Italy. Most of the world goes to Monterosso al Mare in the Cingue Terre. Monterosso Marche is in the mountains between Perugia and Ancona. If you need to come down into Italy via Venice, there is a night train from Salzburg to Venezia Santa Lucia that departs at 01:34 and arrives in Venice at 08:34. If you are going to Monterosso in the Cinque Terre, this is the wrong way. It will work as a start to get to Monterosso March. Please clarify.

Assuming you mean Monterosso in the Cinque Terre, the Bahn shows the fastest route to be just over 11 hours during the day - RJ to Innsbruck, EC to Bologna, IC to Parma, and 2 regional trains from there to Monterosso with a change in La Spezia.
