My daughter (21) and I plan on arriving to Vienna, Austria on June 24. We would like to spend approximately one full day there, proceed on to Salzburg (1 day), then the majority of the rest of our trip in Switzerland (returning to Stockholm on July 3). What are the places we should see-and what rail passes should we use? The rail system is still confusing to me - have looked at different sites and I still can't figure out what would be the most economical use of $$. We will be staying in hostels (my first time) most of the trip - on a budget. Thanks for your help! P.S. Also is there a train from Stockholm to Vienna (overnite) or otherwise?
There are no direct overnight trains Stockholm to Vienna, but it looks like you can get a sleeper and 3 changes of train if you look here:

Switzerland is great and it really depends on what you like to do. RS loves Gimmelwald and if it is clear, it is wonderful. When you are stuck in the clouds you don't know what you are missing, but it isn't as exciting. If you are hikers that is a great place to be for a couple of days. I enjoyed Luzern better than Zurich, going up Mt. Pilatus and taking a lake cruise there. Also Luzern has a lot of really fun places to check out that cost nothing. I think Swizerland in general is expensive, but Luzern seemed a bit less so than Zurich.
