Rick's rail map of Austria and Czech Republic shows Vienna to Breclav at a cost of $15. The rail timetable sent with the Swiss Pass shows several trains from Vienna to Prague, only one of which mentions Breclav. Does anyone know whether most go through Breclav or do many go a different route? If I had an Austrian rail pass would a portion of the Vienna to Prague trip be covered, say from Vienna to Breclav or some other "border city"?
Timetables sent with a railpass are close to worthless. Try the German Rail website for actually schedules all over Europe. You can expand a trains route to show all stops. You can also get this information on the Austrian Rail and Czech Rail websites.
An Austrian Rail railpass should cover your travel from Vienna to the Czech border.
Rick's map are really good, and I recommend them all the time. However, in my experience his prices have been out of date.
The Austrian train site is pretty efficient: http://www.oebb.at/en/index.jsp it will tell you routes, and all.
How can Rick's prices be "really good"? They are in US$, and the real prices are in Euro. The exchange rate fluctuates daily. Were they really good yesterday or will they be really good tomorrow? Also, for Germany, they fail to take into account the difference between ICE fares, IC fares, promotional fares like Dauer Spezial fares, regional fares, or regional passes like the Bayern-Ticket.
Try this website for prices in the Czech Republic.
Update: According to the Austrian Rail website, the fare from Wien to Bernhardsthal, which is only 6 minutes from Breclav, is €12,40, about $18.
