Where can we travel in Austria for 7 days and still spend our nights in St. Johann im Pongau?
Have I not done this incorrectly? Is there no one out there with suggestions for day trips from Alpenland, St. Johann im Pongau?
We have an opportunity to stay at a time share in September next year (4 of us) which will cover our hotel cost. As we read about all the wonderful places to see in Austria, we'd love suggestions on day trips - where and can we use local transportation?
I've read wonderful responses to other questions - and would appreciate any suggestions.
Munich is 2 to 2 1/2 hours driving each way--so depending on your tolerance for long day trips that might be your northwestern limit; it will take you at least a couple of days of day trips to scratch Munich's surface.
In addition to the site given above, the site below will help you come up with more ideas, as it gives driving times in a user friendly way
Susan,
I traded into the same resort a few years ago with II. There is a castle/fort there that has a nice tour and bird show. I can't remember the name but it is very close by. You will see it when you are driving on the highway. There are some ice caves in the area, hiking, a large water gorge to visit. We did a day trip to Hallstat and took the saltmine tour. Salzburg is close and Bertchesgarden. There is a gondola ride that you can take in Zell Am Zee that is nice. Also you can rent a small boat and cruise the lake. It is a very pretty area. As the others have said Munich is not that far away and I think the train station is not too far of a walk from the resort. It is a nice small town in a good location to a lot of sights. Have a fun trip.
Hi,
I think the Castle with the Falcon show that Darla is referring to is Hohenwerfen Fortress.

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions! We've been reading and researching but it so good to hear directly from people about their travels. We are really looking forward to visiting Austria and even thinking of taking another week to travel to another country.....Switzerland, Germany, or Italy.
THANKS!!
