We will be travelling to Austria and the German Tyrol area in September. We read that there is a program in Italy to have dinner in an Italian home and we wondering if there was such a program in Austria and or Germany.
Hi Sandy, That would be Germany and the Austrian Tyrol. I don't know of any "programs", sorry. What I can suggest, if you're looking for a more "authentic experience", is staying in local, family owned and run Gasthof's, Pension's and Garni's and having dinner in local places "off the beaten track". Paul
I concur that if you stay in a smaller gasthaus, most still have restaurants in house. Obviously check first or see if they have recommendations to a smaller restaurant in town.
you might be able to hit the austrian thxgiving around late sep. there is usually a large celebration in vienn with big tents full of people drinking and dancing. it's a lot of fun to dance on the table with new friends than sitting down dinners. people are very friendly and generous, maybe not so much english but no problem communicating over beer.
