I am planning a 9 day trip in late March -early April starting and ending in Vienna and I am looking for itinerary suggestions. I will be traveling with one or two teenage college students. Train travel preferred. Multiple countries ok. Thanks!
I too suggest Budapest, but also Prague.
Definitely spend around 4-5 days in Vienna-lots to do & see. I've not been to Salzburg but I hear a lot of people enjoy it. I went the other direction, to Budapest, and had a fabulous time. In fact, I liked it a little more than Vienna! Mauthausen concentration camp is a few hours away by train, and the college students might be interested in that. Vienna also has a great nightlife scene, in the Neubau & Mariahilf neighborhoods. I'm sure there are some small towns nearby that make for good day trips, but I'm more of a big busy noisy city type. I did take the train to Bratislava one day, which was nice, as it was on a Sunday when Vienna shuts down. Enjoy your trip!

Hi, I suggest staying in the West Train Station (Westbahnhof) area, three hostels are located there within walking distances, one is on Mariahilferstrasse, which is across the street form the station. Also, there are Pensionen nearby, esp., on Zieglerstrasse, down from Mariahilferstrasse. You have access to the U-Bahn (subway) at Westbahnhof, U-3 and U-6, which connects to Wien Meidling if you want to do a day trip to Bratislava (Preßburg). As a itinerary suggestion, I would recommend a day trip to Eisenstadt in Burgenland, very doable from Vienna.
Thanks, I have been thinking about Budapest and Prague- wasn't sure if there were other cities I should throw in the planning mix. Are 2-3 days in each city sufficient? Venice is also a personal favorite.
I would say minimum 3 days for each city. Prague and Budapest.
Linz.
