I am looking for a small, non touristy town in Spain to spend the month of July with my youngest daughter (age 8). I'd like to enroll her in a few day camps or activities so she can mix with some local kids. Ideally the town is attractive and is near interesting sights, museums or national parks. My bias is to avoid southern Spain due to the heat and presence of American/English speaking tourists. And I would love to not have to rent a car for the whole period (perhaps on weekends only?). I would greatly appreciate any suggestions. Muchas gracias!
Karen - I don't have a specific city/destination to recommend, but I strongly suggest you limit your search to northern Spain if you are travelling in July! Almost anywhere from Madrid south will be brutal that time of year. Get a Spain guide book - perhaps something other than RS (because he doesn't cover everywhere - especially non-touristy locations) and look it over.
