Need advice on whether or not to drive into Lyon with the rental and drop off at Perrache or turn in our car in Avignon and train into Lyon, or finally drop off in Valence and then train to Lyon?? We will have had the car for 7 days-last few of 7 nights in Antibes and the 4 nights in Barbentane just S of Avignon. Final 3 nights are Lyon. MERCI!

Will you want or need a car in Lyon? That's what you have to decide. If your answer is no, then drop it off in Avignon.
Tom is right. Will you need a car in Lyon? Considering that Lyon has an excellent metro system plus trams, I can't see why you would unless you are planning day trips outside Lyons. The Avignon TGV station is easy-access by car, ultra modern, has all the car rental agencies, and offers very fast direct service to Lyon.
Hi.No we don't need or want the car in Lyon. Just wondered if since we had it already if we should drive part way to be able to see more sights like Orange or Valence. Thanks for your input. Cheers,
Alexandra
I think it depends upon your interest in wine. From Avignon to Lyon is through the Rhone Valley, one of the best wine-producing regions anywhere. Chateauneuf-du-Pape, just north of Avignon, is the most renowned appellation in the South of France and one of the best in the world. Along the way to Lyon, there are many more wineries. A couple of hours North of Lyon is the famous Cote d'Or where the great Burgundies are produced. If you like wine, keep the car and do some exploring.
Thanks all ( Roe, Tex and Tom)!
We will drop the car in Avignon even
though we do LOVE wine! A second trip to Provence is obviously going to be required...now to find a sponsor!;-) Alexandra
