I am spending 14 days in southern Spain and i am trying to decide whether to go up the Atlantic coast or go along the Med Sea. I figure Med coast is much more expensive but more accessable. Are there some must see spots along the Atlantic coast?
What does "more accessible" mean? Are you referring to cultural accessibility or logistic? I'm not sure I agree with either of the two. Although if one's definition of accessibility is "crawling with Russian mafia and faux English pubs" than the Med coast is the place to be.
The Atlantic coast is packed with great stuff. Zahara de los Atunes, Conil, Caños de Meca or Barbate would be top picks for great beaches, while Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Puerto de Santa María o Cádiz are reasonably sized towns for tapas and relaxation. All of these locations are easily reached by public transportation. Enjoy the trip.
You didn't state what time of year you would be going...if it is late spring, summer or fall, or if you will be driving or not. I would definitely go up the Atlantic coast, driving all the way. From the south of Spain go to Portugal. See the Algarve, then on to Lisbon, then north to the wine country then on to Galicia in NW Spain...then follow the northern coast through the Basque towns and cities along the Bay of Biscayne...you will have a wonderful and "unique experience"....not just another tourist visiting the Costa del Sol, staying in the Miami style high rise hotels.
