Those interested in German and WW2 history may find of interest the article: "Letters From Dresden", in this week's issue of The New Yorker, p. 32 - 39, by George Packer. A think piece discussing the city's rebuilding, including the new "military museum." Unfortunately the article is not yet in the online edition, probably will be in a week.
Hi Kent!
I'm looking forward to reading the article...thanks for the recommendation!

Thanks, Kent. We were so lucky to be in Dresden when they were rebuilding the Frauenkirche. It was really moving how much they salvaged.
Thanks for the head's-up, Kent. My husband and I will be in the neighborhood of Dresden next month and I look forward to reading the article.
Thanks for the heads-up Kent. I'll have to snag the mag from my Mom when she gets done with it (I'm too cheap to get my own subscription). I was furtunate enough to drive through Dresden in Nov. of '89 en route to Bayreuth from Berlin. Forty-four years after the war and the devastation was still quite evident. Whole blocks with no buildings, just neatly piled bricks standing dozens of feet tall. I'll be there in April and plan to take my '89 pics with me for some comparison shots.
Ed: You'll be amazed at the difference a few billion euros of reconstruction money have made, since 1989. As you saw in 1989, the East Germans didn't have the money to rebuild a lot of Dresden.
