Our flight from Crete arrives late (11pm-ish) into Geneva, which sounds like it's going to be late for reasonable transportation into town. Even the shuttle to the airport IBIS stops before we'd likely make it. We have six nights for this leg. Should we opt for an airport-local hotel for the first night? Even if we taxi into town we know that many hotels and private hosts do not like to be bothered for that kind of late-night checkin. And, if so, then should we spend most of the other five nights in Montreaux or Lausanne, rather than Geneva? (We are flying out of Geneva, on to Berlin, at 9:15am so we will not want to be too far from GVA on night #6.) We are open to creative ways to handle the late arrival plus the remaining nights of this leg. Thanks!
The train runs until after midnight (0:11) and takes only 7 minutes from the airport station to downtown. Or you could take a taxi, which is better as it will take you directly to your hoteli. Many downtown hotels will have 24-hour reception; make sure of that when you book. Spend one night there and the remaining ones at one of the other towns on the lake (assuming you want to spend the whole time on Lac Leman rather than visit another nearby part of Switzerland). Montreux might be a little far for a train back to the airport in time for a 9:15 am flight; you should check the schedules at www.rail.ch to see how early the trains start running. We stayed in Morges the night before a morning flight out of Geneva, and it was fine. But one night was enough; we prefer other parts of Switzerland.
