Arriving Interlaken, Gimmelwald, etc

My wife and I are coming into Interlaken (from Paris) at 1pm on a Saturday in July. Any chance there will still be lodging available in any of the mountain towns? I am wondering if I should just book a place in Interlaken and head up to the smaller towns first thing in the morning.

Thanks for the help!!!

If you know the day you will be arriving, you could reserve something now just to be safe. I just checked availability for Hotel Alpina in Murren. They have a few rooms still available on Saturdays in July.

Agree...I would recommend booking in advance as long as your itinerary permits it. Another place you can check out is Chalet Fontana in Murren.

Thanks for the help. We were trying to not "book" too many things as we want the freedom to rome once in Europe (no pun intended).

But I guess that plan is out the window for arrival to Interlaken since we had to reserve our train seats.

I gave a call to Walter's place in Gimmelwald (thanks Rick!) and they still had a room, so we are good to go. Very nice on the phone and even put our minds at ease about coming up to the town late saying last night a couple arrived after midnight.

Can't wait to sleep in the Alps!!!!

Once you are at Walter's Mittaghorn Hotel in Gimmelwald you will be glad you booked lodging there. It's everything Rick claims. Walter is a hoot. Be sure to eat an evening meal there--you make reservations in the morning. Everyone sits around a long table and eats family style. You get to meet interesting people. Wine is included with the meal, and there's lots of it. The English guy who helps Walter (can't remember his name) comes there during tourist season so he can paraglide in his off-time. He'll join in the meal and offer all kind of tips if you want them. Buy a beer in Walter's bar and sit outside on his "veranda"--across the road--and savor the best patio view in the world.

Blake,

I definitely agree with Dwayne's comments about the Hotel Mittaghorn. Although I didn't stay there on my last visit, I did stop by for a beer in the late afternoon and the view is incredible. I also met some interesting people while I was sitting there on the patio.

The Hotel is a RS classic - old and with creaky floors! Be sure to familiarize yourself with Walter's dinner menu (listed in the Guidebook, as I believe there are only two choices.

Happy travels!

It's difficult to go ANYWHERE in Gimmelwald, Muerren, Wengen and NOT have a view :-)
