I fly into Paris at 2430 and have one full day to sight see before flying home. Should I stay in a hotel that is close to the airport and take the metro in the morning to sight see or stay closer in the city? If I stay closer to the sights, does the metro run that late or do I have to take a cab? Thanks
I don't know much about Paris, but I would probably feel safer taking a cab that late! Staying close to the airport might be a good idea too, since you will want to sleep right away I assume.
The last RER train from CDG to Paris departs at 23:56.
I suggest you stay at one of the hotels in the Accor chain that are close to CDG. The closest ones, beginning with the cheapest, are Formule 1 Roissy Aeroport CDG PN 2, Etap Hotel Roissy CDG Paris Nord 2, and Ibis Paris Charels de Gaulle Airport/Terminal.
In the morning buy a one-day, zone 1-6 Paris Visite pass (€17.05). It will get you to Paris and back to CDG on the RER B and give you unlimited rides on the Metro, RER, city buses, and the Montmartre funicular. Be aware that the RER B line divides northeast of Paris. Be sure to get on a train that is going to CDG when you return to the airport.
Go to www.ratp.fr to download and print a Metro/RER map for central Paris and a RER map that shows service to outlying zones, including CDG. Click on the British flag for English.
hi Tim, thanks for the suggestions. I have tried to find pictures of the hotel rooms but I seem to be striking out. I can only find pricing. Do you have websites with more information?
Tim seems to have quite good advice. I would also suggest that you stay at the airport overnight and check the site for the Roissy/Opera bus. We use it often.
Tracy,
Stay at the Marriott Airport. E-mail them your day trip and let them help. The Marriott is really good and if you are hungry for a burger & fries the restaurant in the lobby can comply.

Hi Tracy,
Here's a URL that may be useful. Its author is a resident of Paris.

Hope one day is enough! P.
Here is a link to two pages showing all the Accor hotels at Roissy/CDG: http://tinyurl.com/2q3fbt. You can get a virtual tour of a room at the Ibis, a limited-view photo plus a written description of a room at the Etap, and a written description of a room at the Formule 1.
I have stayed at the Ibis Airport Hotel. All the Ibis chain is clean, and consistant and priced right for the area. We stayed at 3 of them on our recent trip. They all have a nice dining room and bar. Another plus is the free shuttle to and from the airport. When we left Stuttgart two days ago we stayed at a Mercure which is also part of the Accor chain. It was a step up from the Ibis and great. Free internet, shuttle service, etc. I would check both out.
