We will be driving from Bayeux to Mt. St. Michel (and spending the night there). I've been told to get there before the tour buses arrive. What time would you advise us to arrive in the morning?
If you get there in the morning, you will be bored to tears by lunch time.
The governing factors are:
opening hours for the abbey (until 7 in the summer and 6 the rest of the year)
tide times -- use this: http://www.ot-montsaintmichel.com/fr/horaire-marees/mont-saint-michel.htm
If you're spending the night, it really doesn't matter what time you arrive that day. Parking won't be an issue because you'll be able to use the lot reserved for hotel guests. The best times to tour the abbey (the building complex on top of the Mont, as distinct from the rest of the island) are first thing in the morning or late in the afternoon. May as well take your time getting there from Bayeux.
Thanks!
