I would like to travel to Arles this July, but I am having trouble determining which airport in France is the best to fly into from London. I will not hire a car, so I would like to know which French airport has the easiest access by train to Arles. Does anyone know?
I'm not sure this is the easiest but I've taken a train from Paris to Arles with a change in Lyon. It was a pleasant trip but there may be a closer airport from the UK--maybe Lyon? You can check on www.whichbudget.com for budget airline flights.
Marseilles?
When we visited Arles, we flew out of Nice - I'm not sure what the airport is like at Marseilles.
You can fly directly from the UK to Avignon (a short distance from Arles) on FLYBE. I did this from Southampton last year and it was very good. You can check their web site to see what other UK cities they fly from. Avignon Airport is a sheer delight..minute and you really feel like you are flying. The approach to Avignon on a clear day is fabulous as you have a good view of the Rhone Valley anad Mt. Ventoux. Highly recommend this way of getting to Provence. From Avignon Airport you wo uld have to take a taxi to the train service as there was no bus service last year.(not far)
