Has anyone taken a river cruise departing in Arles, France. I am trying to find out how to get to the Arles river cruise port from the rail station. We will be cruising on an Avalon ship and I am having difficulting finding out where the port is and how far it is from the rail station. If anyone can provide information on this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
George
I once stayed at Hotel Regence, located on the river. It is next to where the cruise ships dock and I was told the train station was very nearby. You should definitely be able to walk to the cruise port from the train station. As the previous person mentioned Google Earth, I try to look up every place I'm visiting before I go so I already have my bearings.
This is not definitive, but if you look at the google satellite shot, you'll see 2 cruise ships and a whole passel of parked tour buses about 200 yards from the train station. Just zoom in on the train station until the scale is about 1 inch = 100 ft. I think its a good bet. https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=arles+france&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=0x12b672075d4814cd:0x40819a5fd970550,Arles,+France&gl=us&ei=CbgwUsS4BerWyQHKs4DoBg&sqi=2&ved=0CJUBELYD
George, why not contact Avalon and ask them?
I did contact Avalon, but believe or not they said they couldn't tell me! They gave me a number to contact when I get there. I am very disappointed in their lack of help. I am just concerned that if I don't have at least a general idea of where to go, and I am not able to reach them by phone when I do get there, I could be scrambling to find it.
Telephone numbers can often be called from further away than local. Perhaps you could call from at home in Texas. Just remember that they are 7 hours ahead of Texas when calling and try to call during business hours.

Hi, George I just got back from AMAWaterways Rhone River cruise that ended in Arles. We took the bus to Barcelona. But for the people leaving in Arles,I'm pretty sure the cruise manager said that the train station was across the street. Those people could just walk over anytime after breakfast. You should have no problem getting to your ship from the Arles train station. On Google map, it looks like the train station is just two streets over from the river. Arles is a small town. All will be quite evident and straight forward once you get there. The town is right on the river. You're not going to miss that. The ships would be hard to overlook too. The Avalon website should have a map of where your ship will be docked. Or look at the information they sent you. Enjoy your cruise. We loved ours.
Send me a private message if you want more information about the cruise. chun
Thanks to everyone that responded. I think I now have a much better idea of what to expect and where to go when I get to Arles. Thanks again.
