We'll be arriving via train from Paris. Any agencies you rec? What should I expect to pay for a car to hold 3 adults and minimal luggage (RS backpacks)?
I would shop all of them on the Arles webpage. There won't be very many for that size town. Reserve the smallest car because you don't want to be driving anything larger.
The agency usually won't have one to give you; so they will upgrade you at no cost. Trouble with that is that a larger car will usually get poor gas mileage.
Thanks Carl for the advice. Do you get the CDW?
Personally, I ALWAYS get the CDW, otherwise, you're liable for the value of the entire car if it's totalled. Another thing to watch out for is "excess value." Even if you take the CDW, they'll still say you're liable for part of the car's value....anywhere from about 500 Euro and up, depending on how fancy the car is. You can bring this down to zero through "excess value insurance." Be aware that these things are very poorly explained on many rental company websites.
Check through Autoeurope.com. It's almost certain to be much cheaper booking online through them than renting at an agency once you're in France. Taking the CDW depends on the terms of your own insurance and credit card. Call both to make sure you understand if you need CDW. Autoeurope's representatives on their 800 line are good at explaining the options.
We made a reservation for September through AutoEurope as it offered the best price for pickup and return to Arles. You may also want to check www.gemut.com, which offered a comparable rate. I believe both agencies actually obtained the car through Europcar.
Gary, what actual agency then do you pick the car up from then in Arles?
