Areas near Paris

Can anyone recommend day trips from Paris. That allow you to see something other than the city life? Maybe, somewhere to hike, bike or just enjoy nature?? Never been to Paris and will be there 5 days! Thanks!

Based on your interests, several ideas come to mind. Versailles - the gardens are worth several hours. You can rent bikes, row boats on the Grand Canal, or just hike through the formal and in-formal gardens. If the chateau doesn't interest you, just skip it and enjoy the exterior and gardens. Plus the town is a nice retreat from Paris. Within Paris itself is the Bois de Boulogne. A very extensive forest preserve with lots of walking, biking and nature options. Givery has Monet's gardens. I have not been but it's on my list and is usually given high recommendations.

Ivy,, I can wholeheartly recommend the Fat Tire Bike tour to Giverny . You will see some lovely countryside as you bike down a bike/pedestriatian path along a river to the You are met at the train station in Paris, you then go as a group on the train to Vernon. Walk a block or two to pick up some lunch /picnic supplies in the small town of Vernon, then walk a block or two to pick up the bikes. You then cycle out of town over a bridge to a lovely spot on the side of a river for your picnic. Then the bike ride along the river path( it is an old converted rail line,, so no hills!) and then a small hill and there you are . You park the bikes, are walked to gardens given your admission tickets and told a time to meet back at the bikes. I spent maybe less then an hour in the gardens then had time to wander around outside, its just a country lane that runs in front ,found a little cafe/hotel , had a drink, walked back to group.
ITs an easy ride, and lots of fun.
