what's the best area to stay in Barcelona with children and yet still be walking distance to the Ramblas, Plaza Catalunya.
Opinions about staying in Barceloneta ?
In my opinion, the "Eixample" district is the best area for everyone, very residential and yet immediately "above" the Gothic Quarter and the touristic center of Barcelona, a VERY walkable distance to everything you'd want to see in old Barcelona. Regarding the Barceloneta, it's really not a place for children. It's known for its partying and, also, sketchy safety at night. Near the bars there's a lot of life & activity, but away from them it can be downright quiet - almost too quiet for your own comfort, little foot traffic. Also, while the Barceloneta is great being near the beach for the children, it's also quite a walk to, say, many areas of Old Barcelona you're likely to want to visit. But taxis are always available!
