In April we will be visiting Germany. Looking at Wurzberg, Bamberg, Nurnberg and curious if there is any sort of "commuter" ferry or sightseeing ferry.
None of those cities are on the Danube.
Strange. I received some catalog today and it has a map showing a 15 day river cruise stopping at those three - the map has it listed as "Main Danube Canal".
The canal is not the Danube river. Check Google regarding the canal. Maybe you want to revise your question. Are you interested in cruises on the Danube, or in visiting these towns?
Thanks - will do. Not really interested in cruises but am visiting those towns and was planning on taking train between. When I saw that catalog it just got me thinking that maybe there was some sort of commuter ferry or something.
I believe the word "Main" in this case means the Main River. So, now you can go check your maps again.
Wuerzburg is on the Main river. The canal goes right through Bamberg and close to Nuernberg. Part of the way it uses the Altmuehl river. The idea of a canal connecting the Main and the Rhein, which flows into the North Sea with the Donau (Danube) which flows into the Black Sea, thus making a navigable waterway completely across Europe was an idea for a long time. I'm not sure if the Romans wanted one, but Charlemagne did. So did Napoleon. When I was in Passau, on the Danube near the German-Austrian border, I saw a cruise ship that said it was out of Basel. It must have come through the canal. So, there must be boats on the canal, but for "sightseeing" between towns?
