Are the Jungfraujoch and Shitlhorn worth the cost

I've stayed for four days in Murren years ago and was unaware of the JFJ train. The view across the valley is so majestic. However I really like being in more green than gray so am wondering doing one or both is really a 3 star value. Staying 3 days in Murren again makes me wonder if these twi trips are the best usage of my time since I do plan on doing some hiking and renting bikes there. Will be there in early September. Are these trips worth doing if there's rain or fog? Thanks for the input.

The Jungfraujoch railway does take you to the "Top of Europe" the views of the Aletsch glacier are spectacular and the rotating restaurant on the top of the Schilthorn is not that usual, I hesitate to say unusual because there are others, but it depends on your priorities. I have been up to Jungfraujoch several times and enjoyed each time will I go this year when I'm in Interlaken? No. Will I go to the Schilthorn again possibly. It what you want to do. If it's wet or foggy definitely not, you need to check before you get to the station or cable car station.

No, on a foggy or rainy day. But a definite "yes" on a clear day up there. We went up the Jungfraujoch once and the Shilthorn several times over a total of five weeks stay in Brienz in the Berner Oberland. Each time we sat down and had either lunch or dessert/drink enjoying the beautiful scenery. I would love to go back. Enjoy your trip.

I did not enjoy going to the top of the Jungfraujoch. It was very expensive, took a long time to get there and back, and, for me, paled big time in comparison to going to the top of Mont Blanc/Aiguille du Midi in Chamonix. I was disappointed and felt we had wasted our time and money. I did get sick from the altitude (but not at Mont Blanc which is higher) which did not help, but even if that hadn't happened I would have had the same opinion. Been to and stayed in Murren twice (loved it there) and I would much rather spend my time doing hikes/walks. We also rented bikes and my son paraglided.

john, Overall, the Schilthorn and the Jungfraujoch are worth visiting at least once (IMO), as they're both somewhat unique. However especially with the Jungfraujoch it won't be as pleasant in the rain, fog or snow (although you could still tour the Ice Palace or other exhibits inside). If the weather is clear, the Schilthorn is a great place to have a fine hot meal in the revolving restaurant, while watching the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau glide by the windows. You could also have a "Martini shaken, not stirred" in the James Bond Bar (one of the James Bond movies was partially filmed there). Be sure to check the Webcams or weather reports (especially for the Jungfrau) before buying tickets. Cheers!

We took the train up to the top of the Jungfrau on a clear day and it was a once in a lifetime experience, expensive yes,you already spent money to fly there and a view of Glaciers and three countries is not available everywhere.

Love the mispelling of the mountain's name, BTW. That would actually be a perfect name for it in the early spring, when the farmers fertilize the pastures with liquified manure. Please don't correct it!

I agree strongly with Susan, but Ken makes a valid point, IF.....you've never been then I think it worth doing just to satisfy yourself! Mt.Blanc/Chamonix is a big winner!

Being a lover or high mountains and expansive observation vantage points, I think the climb on the Jungfrau is worth the expensive fare on a day with clear skies and no hurry, allowing for intermediate stops. As with any other high mountain, there is not much to see on a low-cloud day, and shades are plenty on early morning or late afternoon.
