Thats great! Thanks so much, sounds like a easy walk that I could stretch out to a couple of hours with the way I like to stop and gawk!

That makes a lot of sense. I do want to maximize my time at the sites =)

I will have to do some research to see which bus would go from the Arc to the Eiffel. Im sure there must be a direct (or semi direct one) route with all the tourism there!

Jenean,

Go to www.ratp.fr and click on the British flag to view the site in English. Download and print a Metro/RER map for central Paris and a RER map that shows service to outlying zones, including CDG, Orly, and Versailles. Use the journey planner to get recommended routes on the Metro/RER or the bus. After you are given a suggested route, you can click on a map for each portion of the route. If you move your mouse cursor over a Metro, RER, or bus station icon, you'll be shown the name of the station and which lines use it. The map will be in French. If you want to print it, click on "Imprimer" in the upper left-hand corner.

Hi Jenean, Don't discard the idea of using the bus.

There is a direct route from Tour Eiffel area to the Arc. The bus is slower than the metro (especially for long distances, which this isn't), and faster than walking. But the added bonus by using the bus is that you get to see the same neighborhood you would see on foot, and you can get off if something catches your eye. For this reason, I use the bus much more than the metro (and I get a Carte Orange, so the price is the same). If you walk, don't miss looking in the window of the Ferrari dealership. You're on vacation; don't get in too big of a rush! Charlie Robinson, Lodi, California

Thanks Charlie, Good point about the bus, the idea of being able to hop off if I like is good. I will just have to make a decision, maybe when I get there and see how I feel as well as how the weather is at the moment!

Just to add another thought to the whole mixture: last time I was in Paris, I regretted when it was too late that I had relied on the metro too much. I had taken it for even small distances just because I could (I had an orange card). I think that Paris is a sight in itself, and so walking to the Eiffel Tower from the Arc de Triomphe just lets you see more of it. When we go again in October, we'll be doing lots of walking. And thirty minutes isn't bad; the sights are relatively close. I think it would be a pleasant walk. And I'll never forget the time a French man asked me how to get to the Hotel de Ville from the Champs-Elysees. I told him how to take the metro, but he wanted walking directions! Don't miss seeing Paris because you're busy seeing the Eiffel Tower and the Notre Dame. :) If you think walking might be too strenuous, take the metro or a bus (both are good depending on your route). But walking in Paris is truly a pleasure!

Bus 92 goes between the Arc and the Parc Champ du Mars. We caught it the opposite direction around the corner from Rue Cler on Ave. Bosquet.

Use the Metro if you want to save on time, walking is good also you would have the option of stopping maybe having lunch, a cappeccino and french pastry and do some leisurally shopping.

As suggested take the 92 bus from the arc and stop at Bosquet & champs du mars visit the Rue Cler market. The tower is a 10 min walk from the market. Look at google.earth and view the walk. the Cafe Du Marche on the corner Rue Cler & Champs du Mars is very good.

Craig

I walked this route a couple of years back. I was atop of the Eiffel and could see the Arc so I thought I'd walk it. Its much farther than I thought and I dont think the scenery was that interesting - maybe I was more interested in seeing the Arc than embassies. As I recall, I think the walk was more than 30 minutes so be prepared. I wish I had taken a cab instead.

That's true... it isn't that scenic a walk. A bus would be the best bet, or take the Metro from Trocadero, which has a great distance view of the Eiffel Tower.

Good point above about buses allowing you to see more of the city than the Metro. I tended to rely on the Metro too much too, but I was always impatient about waiting for buses, not knowing when they would come next and it seemed difficult to figure out where the various buses were going.

Stroll like the Parisians. You are in Paris! It is a beautiful walk.

Although you can cheat and take the bus and still see the scenery.

Just remember that once you get to the Arc, you will need to climb ALOT (400?) of steps to get to the top.
