Will there be any sign of lavender in provence this April/May? Also, I plan on layering clothes, but will shorts be appropriate as well? Mostly staying inland-not planning on much coastal stops.
Lavender blooms a little later. Plenty of other spring flowers, though!
Lavender in Provence generally begins blooming mid to late June. Harvesting commences early July.
Too early for lavender, but poppies should be plentiful... as for shorts, I wouldn't necessarily count on it. That being said, you could almost have worn them today in Aix !

Thanks! I will be happy with Poppies!
We will have a car so anything you think we 'must see' don't hesitate to suggest!
We do like smaller towns- hill towns-we will be coming thru the mountains at Torino into France and heading for Provence-
Thanks again!

As long as you'll be coming into Provence from the Alps - take advantage to stop if you have the time at a few of my absolute favorite (and less well known) hilltop villages to the east of Apt. Specifically, Lurs (just nearby Manosque) and then Viens, Simiane-la-Rotonde and Oppedette between Manosque and Apt.
You will love them all and they are definitely off the beaten tourist track !

Thanks so much! This is exactly what I was looking for!
This is like having a friend there already!
Don't forget Gigondas for some wine tasting and fabulous views!
