I am planning my trip and find it a struggle now that I am working on the Switzerland leg of the trip (first trip to Europe) without a car. We decided to make our way by train in Switzerland after 2 weeks with car in Germany/Austria. We are planning to spend 2 days in Appenzell before going to the Jungfrau region. How do I pick a Mountain Inn for my stay when I don't know which lift to take to get there? What is the distance from the lift to the Inn? How far from the train station is the lift? There is not enough detail on the web sites I am using. Found Appenzellerland the best. Any advise with be great! We are in our late 50's and do not want to hike for more than .5- 1 mile from lift to Inn. Thank you.
Hi Barbara, Your post is a bit confusing, where exactly are you trying to find the Inn, Appenzeller or some where in the Berner Oberland? And which lift are you talking about? Jim (Switzerland)
Yes, your question is confusing because you say you are "in Switzerland now" but asking about mountain inns in Appenzell, most of which do not open until May. So I will assume you are " in Switzerland now" just with your planning. Which inns are you considering? Did you try individual websites? If you name some, I might be able to look them up for you. But I will say that I consulted my book on Switzerland's Mountain Inns and apart from Berggasthaus Aescher, all the inns listed require a hike of 1-3 hours or more.of course there could be others not listed that are more accessible, so it would help to know what you are thinking. If you simply want a mountain inn experience, and would consider the Berner Oberland instead of Appenzell, I can suggest a few that are right at the top of the lift, or a short walk away.
