We are long-time Rick Steves TV program watchers & book owners. We are going to Switzerland in late Sept./early Oct. and want to stay at Berggasthaus Aescher for 3 nights (Oct. 4.5.6). I have sent two e-mails to "[email protected]" as your Switzerland book suggests, to ask for information. I even wrote some of my note in German. as I can speak a little Deutsch. I thought it was a very pleasant. positive letter, yet I have received NO response from Claudia and Beny (the hosts) in the last 4 weeks ! Are they mad at Canadians, North Americans, Rick Steves ??? I hope that they have not had any disasters strike their family or home ! Cheers, and thanks for your help.

According to their website www.aescher-ai.ch/, they are requesting that all reservations be made by telephone - T: 071 799 11 42 or 071 799 14 49
Calling them might give you better results.

James, As someone else mentioned, they specify on their website, "Reservations please only by telephone!" (the exclamation mark at the end is theirs). The numbers shown are T: 071 799 11 42 oder 071 799 14 49. Before contacting them, it might be prudent to check the long range forecast for that area as there could be snow at the higher elevations in October. I was intending to spend a night there on my last visit to Appenzell, which took place during June a few years ago. The weather was miserable at the time and the locals told me that there was likely snow at Ebenalp so it might be wise to visit another time. If you are able to arrange your visit, you might want to post in the "Trip Reports" section of the HelpLine when you get back, as the information may be helpful for others.
