Hi - My wife, 2 adult sons and I are going to be in Porto for 4 days in December. I've been looking for an apartment to rent and I've found two that look fine. One is a lot more expensive than the other so I'm trying to figure out which is the better location. Thanks Rua Gonçalo Cristovão, 121 – 2º Alameda Dr. Fernando Azeredo Antas Thanks in advance
Just looking at Google Maps the first one is right downtown near the main plaza. A very central location but some areas downtown can be a bit dodgy. The other is pretty far out from the center. I think it'd be more inconvenient for you but I believe it's in the nicest part of the city. But hopefully someone very familiar with Porto can offer their input.
Thank you for your help.I'm having a bit of a difficult time figuring this out. The second one is a lot less expensive than the first. We may have a car, but if I can be in an area that I don't need one, I'd rather turn it in. Also, if people had places they knew about, I'd rather do that. Thanks
I suppose it depends on what you will do with your time in Porto. If you plan to mostly tour the area and Duoro Valley - the 2nd place with a car might be a good bet. But if you plan to spend your time mostly in Porto exploring the city and drinking port, then having a car will do you little good. The old center is not car friendly and you'd be better off taking a bus into the center each day or renting the more central apartment. Hope that helps as I've reached the limit of my Porto knowledge. PS - I assume you've seen photos of both apartments and they look fine?
Thank you very much for your help. We will be driving around but not for the first couple of days. I think we will want to explore Porto and drink as much Port as possible! I think we are going to stay in the downtown apartment. I have seen pictures of both places and they look very nice.
