Apartment in Paris in July

We are staying on Paris for a week next July and it would seem to make sense to stay in an apartment..My brother stayed in an apartment at the Hotel Relais Bosquet w/his family and they seemed to like it. Does anyone else have experience with this hotel, or could suggest others as well? My understanding is it's in a pretty decent neighborhood and fairly close to the Eiffel etc.. We are looking in the 150 EU range..Thanks, Steve

I rented a one bedroom apartment in the 5th and it was fantastic. I personally like that area better than the 7th, which is only close to the Eiffel Tower. I think the normal price is $1450 (yes, dollars) per week. It even has a washer and dryer. If you would like more information just let me know.

Edit - I rented through VRBO.com

Steve - Our family used vacationinparis.com this past summer. They have aparments in all districts in Paris. They are US based, New Jersey I believe. They were a pleasure to work with.

There is also VRBO.COM, I have not used them, but people appear to have very positive feed back.

Parisattitude.com is another good one.

I second the recommendation for Vacation in Paris Apartments. If you follow this link you will go right to the listings by arrondissement

http://www.vacationinparis.com/toc.htm

If you are concerned about were you will be staying, this site makes it easy to compare properties in the same district.

I also recently rented an apartment through vacationinparis.com and I would definitely rent from them again. I found them very easy to work with. You can pay with a credit card and they mail you the keys before you depart.

Just stay away from Isabelle's Apartments in Paris. She advertises via many different sites inc. VRBO and her (amongst others). Though our experience with her was awful we would still go the route of an apt. rental again but just allowing more time to book and being more selective. It is great to have some space and to have the option of having some meals in. Have a wonderful time.

Another nod for Paris Attitude.

No matter which company you end up choosing, be aware of a few key details:

1) How will you obtain your key?
2) How do you contact the owner?
3) How close is it to the metro?
4) What's the atmosphere of the neighborhood like?
5) Which floor, really? The French call our first floor "rez de chaussée." It is Floor 0. Concordantly, our second floor is their first floor, etc. So when you read, "this lovely apartment is on the 6th French floor," it's on the 7th floor. Which brings me to the next question...
6) Is there an elevator (French = ascenseur? (NOT common in old French buildings).
7) Is there a security deposit? What is the policy?
8) How does the washing machine/dishwasher/etc. work? Often, appliances in Europe operate a bit differently from the ones you're used to back home.

Bottom line: Never stop asking questions!

Excellent points. Any more ideas on which area to stick with? We would like to stay where it is somewhat quiet but not too far from the sights - like everyone else I guess ;-) Thx, Steve

Isabelle is truly a delight, we stayed in the Beaubourg (close to the Pompedieu in the Marais) last summer, but she has an apt close to Tour Eiffel. check out her website, I would recommend her very highly.

I have used www.nyhabitat.com successfully, both in Paris and in New York. I also have friends who booked an apartment through them (they are the ones who first suggested that agency to me!) and they were very happy with their service + the apartments they rented. I don't know how many you will be but within your 150 EU range, I am sure you can find a nice apartment rental that will give you much more space and freedom than just a hotel.
As for the neighborhood, New York Habitat website includes a blog with good hints about neighborhoods and other travel tips (www.nyhabitat.com/blog) Personally I like Ile St Louis very much, but also the Marais, St Germain and Notre Dame.

9.) July? does it have AC? (in early June we did not need it.)

10.) get the address and Google map it. Now look at the street view. Is it on a main street? It will be noisy. Look for an apt on a side street.

11.) make sure that has lots of good customer reviews!

.....and most important of all,

12.) is it established? Has it been in the rental pool for quite a while.

Some rental pools allow anyone to post a rental, and some of these are scams. Caveat Emptor. When we were leaving our Rome rental apartment, they asked us if we were leaving early. They had an emergency customer who had been scammed, and needed an apt. ASAP.

13.) is there a local contact that will be available? In every place that we rented in Europe, we always had a question about some apt. feature.

In Europe we rent from VRBO, and Homelidays. Our 1 bedroom apt in Paris was at the top of the 15th, within walking distance of the Eiffel tower, and was only $90 EU/nite.

We stayed in this apartment for a week in July and it's location COULD NOT BE BEAT, I kid you not!

It's on Rue de la Houchette which is one short block back from the Seine, just across from Notre Dame. You can stroll from your door to the cathedral in 2 minutes.

Plus it is right on the St. Michel metro stop which is one of the most convenient in the city with direct connections to CDG airport, the Eiffel tower, and Versailles.

On top of that, the street, itself is hub of nightlife, packed with restaurants and shops, but the apartment is set back in a couryard and has NO noise.

It's not fancy, but it's clean and functional. If you are sharing, the price is right at about $170/night, which is cheap for Paris.

I would not recommend staying near the Eiffel Tower unless you want to have to hop the metro to see ANYTHING else. The city center is Notre Dame, three miles away.

If you will be there on Bastille Day (7/14...or 14/7) be sure to come REALLY early (like 5:00) for the fireworks behind the Eiffel Tower. The 3-mile walk back to our apartment (because the metro stops were blocked off) at midnight along the Seine was my best memory of Paris - the ony time our children have ever walked that far and not complained. It was magical.

We stayed in a studio apt Nov 7-16, 2009 in the St-Germain neighborhood close to Randy and close to the Mo Odeon. It's a great neighborhood.
My advice -- you may get a view and even save some money by renting on a very high floor. But beware, you may be exhausted after a long day of touring and stairs will be a killer. Rent on the ground floor (or have an elevator). Consider air conditioning. Look for listings that say the apt faces a courtyard and not the street, so is very quiet. We rented thru VRBO.

I am considering renting from Paris Attitude. Has anyone ever had a problem getting their deposit back from them. The deposit they require is equal to the rental amount, $2,000.00, so I'm just a bit apprehensive about it. Any feed-back would be appreciated. cw

I have stayed in this apt. It is a studio. Great for 2 persons. No ac. Ask the owners for a fan if you feel it will be to hot. Hopefully, most will not chastise me again for recommending it, especially since you directly asked about an apt.
