How's the hotel, neighborhood & walk to Marienplatz area from the Golden Leaf Parkhotel in Lehel? Neighborhood sounds far better than train station without being too costly.
I'm sure the neighborhood is better than right around the train station, but €142 ($204) per night for a double room with breakfast, that's not what I call "without being too costly". I think you can do better at Uhland, Blauer Bock, Viktualienmarkt, or Münchnerkindl.
Not sure where you're seeing that---I have 85 euros per night, including breakfast, so only maybe $120 per night. Love the looks of Blauer Boch--all booked; same for Viktualian & Uhland.
I used the hotel's own website. Maybe their rates are very date sensitive. I don't recall the date (not Oktoberfest) where I saw €118 w/o breakfast (an extra €12 pP), but when I put in 8/25-26 I get €74,10 for a double room w/o breakfast, €98,10 ($141,81) w/ breakfast. I tried half a dozen booking website and found pretty much the same price, a little under $110. No one showed a price including breakfast. Be very careful. There are six Golden Leaf Parkhotels in Germany, three in Munich. The other two in Munich are much less expensive.
