Anybody eaten at Le Murat in Paris?

This is a restaurant in the 16th that Jona really likes. Anybody eaten there? Any particular dishes you recommend?

Thanks,
Veronica

I have not eaten there. Jona won't be able to answer your question before your departure. Here's the TripAdvisor reviews: TripAdvisor Review Page which ranks it 950th out of 4,000 restaurants. It's also not listed in the Michelin Red Guide, which means if you went there it would be for some other reason besides the quality of the food. I'm sure Jona recommended it for a reason but you won't be able to find out what that reason was before your departure, I hope this information helps you.

Interesting. But I also think that Jona, who posts a lot here, probably knows his food in Paris and wouldn't steer us wrong. So, we may have to try it any way!

I've not been there, but I looked it up in Brasseries of Paris by Francois Thomazeau (which I bought at Borders). It's part of the Costes chain. here's an excerp "The show happens in the dinning room - watch for tv personalities - & not on the menu which offers options about as inventive as a monthly cable plan...though happily the portions aren't as outsized as the bill." From what was written, it doesn't appear to be a warm, friendly place. But if you're interested, go try it or at least walk by & check out the menu/prices to see if you're interested in making a reservation. I've had a lot of good, enjoyable meals in neighborhood places that would never even get mentioned in a Michelin guide.

Veronica: I tried to help you because I happen to know that Jona probably isn't going to be able to answer the question you directed to her, before your departure in a few hours--she has not been posting much lately because she's busy doing other things. Undoubtedly she had a reason for making her recommendation but you're probably not going to find out what that was. Of course, every time I say something like this, Jona comes on and proves me wrong! :)

I am posting this not so much for Veronica - given I believe she is already in Paris. But rather for anyone who may be happening upon the request.

I did have a specific reasons for recommending Le Murat for Veronica. She had requested from me a special place that I liked in Paris for a splurge dinner.

Le Murat is in my neighborhood which means few tourists, however, the restaurant has great service if you are. It is not uncommon that outside of the typical tourist areas that restaurants can be a bit pretentious. Le Murat has what I would call a bit more of an American expectation for service. Even better, a creative menu that won't break the bank, decent wine list and nice decor.

Another consideration I had with supplying a restaurant name has to do with the seasonality. Paris restaurants typically shift their menu based on the season. Early September of course is "rentree" and typically there is a change over of selection. Because I am currently away from Paris, I haven't had an opportunity to see what the chefs have come up with. Le Murat however is typically reliable for decent well thought out meals - beginning to end.
