Any Thoughts on Dusseldorf

Hi,

I've got the option on some cheap flights to Dusseldorf for myself and my nine year old daughter but I know nothing about the city. Anybody have any thoughts or opinions, we'll only be there for a couple of days.

Thanks

I stayed in Dusseldorf for a night and really liked the city. It has a nice walking area near the river and you could always go to Koln as well.

We were there in 2006. We spent time on the river walk, toured old town and took a half day boat ride. There also is a water park but we did not have time to visit it .We day tripped to Koln, less than an hour by train, visited the cathedral and nearby chocolate museum.

My first thought is that, if your "cheap flights" to Düsseldorf are via RyanAir, you'd better start thinking about how you are getting from "Düsseldorf", which is really Weeze, near the Dutch border, to Düsseldorf. Weeze is actually 1h15m from Düsseldorf by bus; there is no train service.

Besides that, I was in Düsseldorf 20 years ago, and, as I remember, the old town was quite attractive.

Düsseldorf is Germany's #1 fashion city. Japanese tourists even fly there just for fashion shopping. Other than that, the picturesque old town and very modern docklands district have already been mentioned. I quite like spending a day or two in Düsseldorf. Also, there are beautiful French-type 17th/18th century palaces around the city. Nightlife is among the top5 of Germany as well - plus Cologne is only about an hour from Düsseldorf. But do keep in mind that Weeze is closer to the Netherlands than to Düsseldorf ;-)
