We're about to make a familiar trip to Paris, but then we want to head out to new areas; My kids have their hearts set on seeing snow, even though our trip will be during the month of May! Is there any to be had? I'd love to travel to the Alps... Thanks!
If you go to Chamonix, you should find snow.
Most of the high peaks throughout the Alps will still have a significant snowcap in May, from southeast France all the way through Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany and Slovenia.
I was in Switzerland in early May last year, and I saw plenty of snow on Mt Pilatus near Lucerne which is about 2000 metres high. There are even higher places you can go if it has melted at that altitude.
You can check the snow here, for all over Germany, Austria, Switzerland.
I visited Chamonix in September and they were hiking in snow at Aguille de Midi. It's a wonderful place to go BTW. Hikes in the valley and along the balcony that you can likely do with kids. They are in Rick Steves' book.
Pam
Jungfrau in the Berner Oberland in Switzerland is guaranteed to have snow.
Thank You! I can't wait. :)
Wherever you are, go as high up the mountain as you can. Cable cars are convenient.
